Taking a few simple safety tips can prevent many accidents and your barn or farm will run more efficiently. Peterson Insurance Services hopes you find these Safety Tips useful. Don't permit smoking in barns and surrounding areas. Post NO Smoking sign's in your barns and outside riding areas. Keep functioning smoke detectors in your barns. Check them often and replace the batteries on a quarterly basis. Post lists of Emergency Numbers near your phone. ( Vet, Fire, Ambulance, Police-Sheriff,etc.) In case of an accident 1. Tend to any injured Animal and or persons first. Assuring their safety and well being. 2. Call your Insurance Company as soon as possible after a Claim. ( Your Insurance Company's Number is listed in your Insurance Policy. Always wear proper riding equipment when mounted. ( This means boots, not sneakers, etc.) Post notices about proper riding attire on your farm so others will do the same. Make this a habit and set a good example. Keep Your barn clean and uncluttered. Aisleways should be clear of any equipment or obstructions that can injure you, your visitors, or your horses. Periodically check your fences for loose or broken boards, posts, or rails. It will prevent horses from escaping and possibly being injured. Keep ALL GATES CLOSED. Post signs so that others will close all gates.
